Polášek and Vaníček both had golden opportunities to score but failed to convert — the former saw the puck bounce awkwardly in the slot, while the latter couldn't beat goalkeeper Blaser with a backhand attempt.

The most dangerous chance of the period, however, fell to Switzerland's Leo Ulrich, who broke in alone on goal after a Czech defenseman's error at the blue line — but Czech netminder Štěpánek came up big with a glove save.

The third period turned into a showcase for the forward, who added his second goal of the game — the team's fifth overall — and created two more dangerous chances. Sandwiched between his two goals, Alessandro Domenicelli made it 4:1.

In the tournament semifinal, Canada defeated Finland 6:3.
