The New York Rangers are without their starting goaltender: Igor Shesterkin is out for the rest of the season. The 30-year-old netminder was injured in the second period of a game in Washington, which the Rangers lost 3-1.
The 2022 Vezina Trophy winner as the NHL’s best goaltender tried to get back into the crease quickly, awkwardly hit his leg against the right post and left the ice with help.
The Moscow native began his eighth season with the Rangers, the second since signing an eight-year contract worth $92 million. His average salary of $11.5 million a year makes him the highest-paid goaltender in NHL history.
Dylan Garand finished the game in Washington. This summer the Rangers acquired Joonas Korpisalo from Boston to back up Shesterkin, but the Finn was also injured last week.
