Shiffrin seeks comfortable underwear and will skip some slaloms

Shiffrin is looking for comfortable underwear: “I really need help”

Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin, a three-time Olympic champion, said on her podcast What's the Point that she has been searching for comfortable underwear for six years and asked listeners for advice. She also admitted that she plans to skip several slalom races in the new season.

The episode's guest was Kylie Kelce, a relative of Travis Kelce, the NFL star and husband of Taylor Swift. “I'm a big fan of granny panties,” Shiffrin said. “I'm trying to find ones that fit well and are comfortable. It's been going on for six years now. I need advice. I really need help.”

She got one tip right away. Kelce prefers thongs, because she doesn't like seeing the outline of underwear under clothes. She recommended a specific model from an American brand to the skier — a thin one that sits well on the hips and doesn't dig in. Shiffrin promised to try it.

The athlete, who holds the all-time World Cup wins record, also shared more serious news: slalom, her signature discipline, will be partly skipped in the coming season. That lowers her chances of winning the Big Crystal Globe again. “I accept that the World Cup overall is something I may not win anymore,” she said, as reported by Bild.

Shiffrin now wants to test herself in other disciplines. “It's been a while since I won in giant slalom and super-G. I want to find out whether I can still make the podium. That's what drives me,” she explained, adding that she isn't closing the door on slalom completely.
