Tank Day in Lešany Features Reenactment of the Battle for the Remagen Bridge

The Military History Institute's annual Tank Day took place in Lešany, drawing crowds thanks to sunny weather and an impressive array of military hardware — from Cold War-era vehicles to modern equipment. This year marked the 22nd edition of the event.

The highlight of the dynamic program was a reenactment of the battle for the Remagen Bridge — one of the pivotal episodes in the final stages of World War II. The capture of this bridge over the Rhine by Allied forces in March 1945 is considered one of the decisive moments that accelerated the advance of troops deep into Germany.

Accident marred the program

Saturday's event was overshadowed by an incident involving a new Tatra Tadeáš 4x4 armored vehicle. During the demonstration performances, the vehicle rolled over, injuring three people. Details about the nature of the injuries and the circumstances of the accident have not been disclosed.
