Trump signs agreement on AI regulation and oversight body

President Donald Trump signed an agreement on artificial intelligence regulation, describing the document as “almost a constitution” bearing the signatures of “the most influential people in the world,” as well as his own. According to him, this is a “morally binding” document meant to serve as a safeguard against the risks of AI.

Trump also said his administration is considering the creation of a separate oversight body for artificial intelligence, which could include around ten people.

Governments around the world are struggling to keep pace with the rapid development of AI technology. Leading global AI developers have previously warned of the risks that uncontrolled artificial intelligence poses to humanity and have called on governments to cooperate in order to keep the technology under control.

Trump’s position looks contradictory: he had previously argued that the United States does not need new rules for AI, yet last week, addressing world leaders at the UN General Assembly, he said he “rejects any attempt to create a globalist system of control” over artificial intelligence.
