Trump Bans CNN, MSNBC and Politico from the White House, Promises More to Come

US President Donald Trump has announced the immediate revocation of White House access for three media outlets at once — CNN, MSNBC (which, he claims, recently changed its name due to plummeting ratings and public trust) and Politico. Trump said the reason behind the move is the outlets' persistent spreading of "fake news."

The president reserved particular criticism for Politico, accusing the outlet of receiving what he called an illegal government subscription worth $8 million — a record sum he claims was allocated by "corrupt Joe Biden's" administration to help the publication "survive." "This seems like CORRUPTION to me!" Trump wrote in his trademark style.

"The media should not be allowed to continuously publish FICTION and LIES about the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States itself. Other Fake News outlets will follow," the head of the White House added. Trump did not specify exactly what violations the named outlets had committed.

Ongoing Legal Battles with the Press

Trump frequently dismisses media coverage and commentary he finds unflattering as lies. Since returning to the presidency, he has already filed a series of lawsuits against major outlets, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and the BBC.

As the AP news agency noted regarding Trump's latest decision, the president's administration is once again raising questions about the constitutional press freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment to the US Constitution.

AP itself has faced similar restrictions before: in February 2025, Trump barred its journalists from the Oval Office, Air Force One and other events. That move came in response to the agency's refusal to comply with the president's demand to rename the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America."
