In late May, an attack on a woman took place on the outskirts of a small village in the Nýřany district. The victim was roughly 40 years older than her attacker, police spokeswoman Eva Červenková reported.
The woman was walking along a field path when a stranger approached her from behind and knocked her to the ground. “He tried to have intercourse with her but did not succeed. The woman fought back fiercely, and during the struggle the man reached climax anyway,” Červenková said.
The young man then fled the scene, taking the victim’s bag along with her personal belongings. Since the incident happened outside the built-up part of the village, there were no witnesses, and there were no surveillance cameras in the area.
Detectives launched a search for the attacker, combing the entire area and checking dormitories and neighbouring villages. Based on a description of his appearance, police identified a possible suspect and detained him at his home earlier this week. The young man confessed to the crime.
Police have charged him with attempted rape as well as with the especially serious offence of robbery. The prosecutor asked the court to remand the suspect in custody, and the court granted the request. “If convicted, he faces up to ten years in prison,” the police spokeswoman said.
