Zelensky's Plane Narrowly Avoided Drone While Leaving Moldova

The plane carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky narrowly avoided an unidentified drone as it took off from Moldova, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre revealed after meeting with the Ukrainian leader in Oslo. Støre did not specify how close the drone actually came to the aircraft.

"His plane almost hit a drone on takeoff from Moldova. This is the reality he has to deal with," Støre said.

A tense night before the meeting

Zelensky arrived in Oslo from Moldova on Tuesday evening and met with Støre on Wednesday morning. According to the Norwegian prime minister, the Ukrainian president admitted he'd had a restless night, glued to his phone as reports came in about fresh missile strikes.

"I asked him how his night was, and he said it was bad — he was on his phone getting updates on where the missiles had hit. It's a very dramatic situation, and it makes a strong impression," Støre said, recounting his conversation with Zelensky.

A farewell to the king and a trip to Canada

Zelensky travelled to Oslo for the funeral of Norway's King Harald V, who died two weeks ago at the age of 89 from a bacterial infection of the bloodstream. Besides his meeting with Støre, the Ukrainian president also held talks with Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

On Wednesday evening, Zelensky flew from Oslo to Canada — his first visit to the country since December of last year. The exact programme of the state visit has not yet been disclosed.
