Zelensky Says Strike Hit Russian Air Base Hosting Kinzhal Carrier Jets

Ukrainian forces struck the Savasleyka military air base in Russia overnight on Saturday, targeting the site where MiG-31K fighter jets — carriers of Russia's hypersonic Kinzhal missiles — are stationed. The strike was first reported by the Telegram channel Exilenova+ and later confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to the Telegram channel, a series of explosions at the airfield triggered a fire. Zelensky wrote on X that Ukraine's long-range strikes had hit precisely the air base from which the carrier aircraft take off to launch missiles at Ukrainian cities and villages. He noted that the Savasleyka base lies roughly 700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border — deep in Russian territory.

Neither the Ukrainian side nor other sources have yet disclosed the extent of the damage.

Factory in Samara Also Hit

In addition to the air base, Ukrainian "Flamingo" missiles struck another target the same night — the Progress plant in Samara, part of Russia's state space corporation Roscosmos. According to Zelensky, the plant produces, among other things, electronic components.
