Zookeeper salaries in Czechia: how much does the head of Prague Zoo earn?

A Czech media outlet is launching a series of reports titled "How Much Do Heads of Municipal Companies Earn," which will gradually, in several waves, reveal just how transparent city-run enterprises are when it comes to disclosing top executives' pay. The authors of the project promise to publish the salaries of those directors who agreed to share the information, and separately describe how the rest attempt to dodge their legal obligation to disclose these figures — since far from everyone responded, and some didn't respond at all.

The first part of the series is dedicated to zoological parks. According to the publication, zoos turned out to be the most transparent among all the municipal institutions surveyed — every single organization contacted provided salary data, including Prague Zoo.

Prague Zoo's new director

Since March 2026, Prague Zoo has been headed by Lenka Poláková, who took over from Miroslav Bobek, the longtime director who was widely known to the public. The outlet promises to reveal the details behind the new director's income, how much her predecessor earned, and to compare these figures with the salaries of directors at other zoos across the country.
