Abandoned secret bunker of the former Czechoslovak army found in a forest near Prague

In the woods less than 20 kilometres from Prague, near the town of Úhonice, lies a long-abandoned military site that almost no one knew existed during the communist era. The secret communications post, poetically named "Studánka," was once ringed by a triple fence and patrolled by guard dogs — getting in without special clearance was simply impossible.

According to available records, this was meant to serve as the command centre for the Czechoslovak People's Army in the event of an attack. What exactly the site was used for afterwards remains a mystery to this day, as that information was never declassified.

The soldiers left, the bunkers remained

The armed forces finally abandoned the base for good in 2002. Since then, the bunkers and other structures on the site have been slowly crumbling, swallowed up by the surrounding forest. Inside, you can still find remnants of the original equipment, left untouched for decades.

Today, this once ultra-secret military facility has turned into a hauntingly atmospheric spot — a reminder of Cold War times and the tight control once kept over strategic territories so close to the capital.
