British Tourist Slams Coffee and Lemonade Prices Near Auschwitz Memorial

A British tourist posting on TikTok under the handle Freespirit666 has sparked outrage online after criticising a café near the site of the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz in Poland. She had visited the memorial with her daughter — a place where more than a million people were killed during World War II.

In the video, the woman complained that she paid nine pounds (roughly 260 crowns) for a small bottle of lemonade, which she said tasted like toilet disinfectant. She also described the strawberry smoothie as noticeably skimped on portion size.

A Taxi Cheaper Than Lemonade

"That's pretty pricey," the blogger said, immediately comparing the drink's cost to a taxi fare. According to her, the ride from the train station — which saved her and her daughter a 25-minute walk — cost just 1.2 pounds (34 crowns), which she considered a great deal. "So if you're heading to Auschwitz, bring your own food and drinks," she advised her followers.

The local coffee menu didn't escape her criticism either. The woman said she and her daughter arrived early hoping to grab a coffee, but the café had neither decaf nor plant-based milk — only cow's milk. In the end, they skipped coffee altogether.

Users Accuse Her of Insensitivity

The video triggered a sharp backlash online, with many accusing the creators of disrespecting the memory of the victims. "This is a concentration camp where thousands of people died, not a review of a five-star restaurant," one user wrote.

Another commenter shared their own experience visiting the memorial: "I went to Auschwitz, didn't bring any food or water, and honestly, I didn't even feel like eating or drinking. It wasn't meant to be an enjoyable outing for me. The last thing on my mind was my own comfort."
