Prague's Artinbox Gallery Marks 15th Anniversary in the Cellar of the "V Kysne" House on Perlová Street

In autumn 2025, Prague's Artinbox Gallery celebrated its 15th anniversary. The gallery occupies the cellar of the heritage-protected Functionalist house "V Kysně" at Perlová 3, in the Old Town — a district once notorious for its nighttime "street workers."

The gallery's founder, director and curator is photographer, artist and writer Naďa Rovderová (born in 1971 in Poprad). The venue's name plays on the building's own: it's sometimes written as "Art in Box," though its actual motto is "Art in Heart." Exhibitions draw both on the founder's own extensive archive and on works loaned by other artists.

The exhibition space fills a spacious cellar, whose brick-vaulted "concert" section looks noticeably older than one would expect from a building completed in the early 1930s. Visitors describe the place as an oasis of calm, freedom and quality art right in the heart of Prague. It showcases art photography, daguerreotypes, sculpture, painting and graphic art, hosts themed exhibitions and workshops, and some works are available for purchase.

The gallery is open only Tuesday through Thursday, from 4 to 6 p.m. Admission costs 70 CZK, with a reduced rate of 50 CZK.

In the second quarter of 2026, the gallery hosted the exhibition "Cherchez la Femme!" (28 March – 28 June 2026), a group show celebrating remarkable Czech women. The works by photographers and artists paid tribute to figures such as Agnes of Bohemia, Božena Němcová, Olga Havlová and Libuše Šafránková. Contributing artists included Eva Kmentová, Toyen, Adriena Šimotová, Eva Švankmajerová, Jitka and Květa Válová, and Anna Zemánková, alongside Bohdan Holomíček, Jan Kovařík, Ivan Kyncl, Daniel Pešta, Ivan Pinkava, Rudo Prekop, Jaroslav Rössler, Michal Sitkevič, Jiří Surůvka and Bohumil Zemánek. Naďa Rovderová herself also took part in the show. As for the male visitors who arrived with their partners — a surprise awaited them: Martina Niubó presented an installation with the provocative title "Hausarbeit Macht Frei."

The "V Kysně" house, in whose cellar the gallery is located, combines a Historicist building from 1874 with a Functionalist extension added in 1931, designed by the noted Czech architect František Havlena.
