On the afternoon of September 20, Czech citizen Michal Plaiminek arrived at Lenin's Mausoleum on Red Square in Moscow carrying a placard written in English which, according to Russia's Interfax news agency, was intended to discredit the Russian armed forces.

According to the state news agency TASS, citing the court's press office, the foreigner staged a solo demonstration in an area adjacent to the residence of Russia's president, where public protests are banned. When detained, he refused to comply with lawful police orders to accompany officers to the police station and resisted arrest.

Arrest and fine

A Russian court sentenced the Czech man to 13 days in custody and imposed two fines totaling 60,000 rubles (roughly 15,000 crowns).

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that its embassy in Moscow is aware of the situation. "The embassy has been providing consular assistance to the detained Czech citizen from the very beginning. Given the sensitivity of the case, we will not be offering any further comment," said ministry spokesman Adam Čhorgo.
