Czechia updates mobile health record app: blood test results and check-up deadlines now visible

The Czech Ministry of Health has launched an updated version of the mobile app EZKarta, the successor to the pandemic-era Tečka app. The service now shows not only vaccination records but also laboratory test results, information about upcoming medical check-ups, and electronic medical certificates.

Users can link the account to their children and elderly parents, for example to help them book preventive and screening examinations.

Blood tests now visible

The most notable new feature is lab results — the app loads data going back three years. Patients can see, among other things, specific cholesterol, blood sugar and lipid levels from preventive check-ups.

According to Petr Foltýn, director of the National Center for Electronic Health, the app shows not just the current figure but also how the values have changed over time. Results are marked green or red depending on whether they fall within the normal range. For now, data appears in the app with roughly a month's delay, though this is expected to shorten in the future.

Check-up reminders and certificates online

On the app's home screen, users can immediately see whether they've completed all required preventive check-ups — primarily with a general practitioner and dentist. If not, the relevant section is highlighted in orange.

The same system applies to screening examinations such as colonoscopies, prostate checks for men, and breast cancer screening for women. In the future, the app is expected to send automatic reminders when a screening is due.

Medical certificates are now also available electronically — no more need to carry paper documents for work or school, for instance. The app has also added a medical fitness confirmation required for drivers over 70; police will now be able to check this document electronically during inspections, so drivers won't need to present a physical copy.

Vaccination records and future plans

As in the previous version, the app displays vaccination history — now available going back to 2010. Some patients can also access hospital discharge summaries and medical records, though currently only from clinics connected to the electronic system — just over 30 at the moment. The plan is to connect all hospitals in the country by the end of next year.

Health Minister Adam Vojtěch (ANO) announced that starting January 1, 2029, keeping all medical records in electronic form will become mandatory in Czechia — marking the final stage of the reform.

The app still lacks electronic referrals for examinations. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) said he expects this feature to launch by July 1, 2027, allowing precise tracking of how long patients wait for their examinations. To make this possible, an amendment to the law on healthcare digitalization must first be passed — it's expected to go before the government as early as September before being sent to the Chamber of Deputies.
