Drought Exposes Barrels in Orlík Dam — Locals Call the Police

The Orlík Dam in the Czech Republic, its water levels dropping due to drought, has exposed several barrels on its bed. Local residents spotted them and, suspecting something sinister, called the police just in case.
"Over the past two days, together with firefighters, we did indeed open two barrels found in the Orlík Dam. In the end, everything turned out to be harmless," confirmed Kamila Čuržinová Ingrišová, spokesperson for the Písek police.
According to her, the barrels turned out to be simply filled with water and had apparently once been part of a pontoon.
What Else the Lakebed Has Revealed
As the Orlík Dam continues to dry up, it keeps uncovering not only historical relics — such as the remains of an old chain bridge near the Podolí Bridge — but also decades' worth of trash that people have dumped into the reservoir over the years.
Similar barrels have turned up in several spots around the reservoir. They are usually opened by local anglers or by whoever happens to find them. Police remind residents that if they're worried about a suspicious find, they can call 158.
