Dyson unveils electric toothbrush with built-in camera, priced at 11,490 CZK

Dyson has unveiled the world's first electric toothbrush with a built-in camera. The new device, called CameraJet, automatically detects gaps between teeth while brushing and directs a targeted irrigator jet straight into them. The full set will cost 11,490 CZK in Czechia.

The camera films what's happening inside your mouth at 28 frames per second and uses machine learning to identify interdental gaps in just 100 milliseconds. According to the manufacturer, the system was trained on 470,000 images of teeth so the algorithm could accurately pinpoint hard-to-reach areas.

Why put a camera in a toothbrush?

According to Dyson founder James Dyson, the spaces between teeth are the most problematic areas — plaque builds up there easily, yet regular brushing tends to neglect them. "Flossing is inconvenient and time-consuming, and almost none of us do it regularly, even though we know we should," he said at the presentation.

Company data shows that nine out of ten people don't floss as often as they should, and the average brushing time is just 45 seconds instead of the recommended two minutes. CameraJet aims to combine bristle brushing, targeted cleaning of interdental gaps, and irrigation fluid delivery all in one device.

A live image of your teeth right on your phone screen

One of the more unusual features is the ability to view a live feed from the camera in the MyDyson app, letting users see on their smartphone screen exactly what's happening inside their own mouth. The manufacturer states that the camera doesn't record continuously — it only activates in live-view mode or when the jet fires automatically — and that no images are stored either on the device or in the cloud.

According to Dyson, the water jet itself is gentler than that of standard irrigators: instead of a narrow stream, it uses a wide, cone-shaped spray that works more like wiping away plaque than simply blasting it off. The brush includes a 12.5-milliliter reservoir for mouthwash, designed to maintain a steady flow even when the device is tilted during use.

Its own toothpaste — and nearly 70% more cleaning power

Dyson has developed a dedicated toothpaste and mouthwash for the new brush. The toothpaste doesn't produce heavy foam, so as not to obstruct the camera's view. The products will be available in flavors including Ginger Mint and Spearmint, with a Peppermint Sensitive option for sensitive teeth.

The brush head combines two types of bristles: firmer inner bristles remove surface stains, while softer outer bristles clean along the gumline. The head carries an RFID tag that lets the device track how long it's been in use and remind users when it's time for a replacement. According to the manufacturer's lab tests, the system removes up to 69% more plaque in hard-to-reach areas compared to leading premium electric toothbrushes — though real-world performance remains to be tested in practice.

The complete Dyson Dental System package includes the CameraJet brush, a charging dock, a travel case, toothpaste, and mouthwash. The dock not only charges the device but, according to the company, also refills the fluid reservoir in just three seconds. The new product will come in two color options — Ceramic Ultra Blue and Ceramic Pink. An exact release date for the Czech market has not yet been announced.
