A fatal traffic accident occurred on Monday around 12:30 p.m. on a second-class road between the villages of Horní Metelsko and Hořovský Týn in the Domažlice region. According to police spokeswoman Veronika Hokrová, the driver of an Audi veered off a straight stretch of road and, after rolling several times, crashed into a tree. The man died at the scene.
Police say the driver, for reasons yet to be determined, crossed into the oncoming lane before veering left off the roadway entirely. The car then rolled over its roof several times before hitting a tree and coming to rest on its side.
Emergency responders were unable to save the driver. “He suffered injuries incompatible with life, and the doctor pronounced him dead,” said Karolína Korčíková, spokeswoman for the regional rescue service.
Criminal investigators from Domažlice are looking into the circumstances of the crash. The exact cause of death of the driver, reportedly a foreign national, will only be confirmed after an autopsy.
