A row broke out on Tuesday evening in a pub in Brno between the parents of a young couple — and city police had to step in to break it up. The incident was reported on Thursday by municipal police spokeswoman Markéta Skřivánková.
According to witnesses, the argument started when the parents of the 19-year-old boyfriend and girlfriend got into a heated exchange. The young man's mother accused his girlfriend's mother of failing to repay money she had lent her and of cheating her out of it. The two sides traded insults, and the dispute soon escalated into an all-out brawl, with people hurling beer mugs at one another.
According to the police spokeswoman, the young man smashed the restaurant's window in a fit of rage and injured himself in the process. All those involved in the conflict were found to be intoxicated, which was confirmed by breathalyser tests.
The pub's owner said the damage from the incident would exceed ten thousand crowns and noted that the entire altercation had been caught on the venue's security cameras. It was these circumstances that led the municipal police patrol to call in state police officers to continue the investigation on site.
