Germany investigates third attack on power substation this week

German police are investigating a series of attacks on electricity infrastructure. According to a Cologne police spokesperson, investigators have received a letter in which an unknown individual claimed responsibility for one of the incidents.

The latest case took place in Dormagen, a town between Cologne and Düsseldorf. Police said a passer-by noticed a suspicious object, which was identified on Thursday as a possible explosive device. No power outages were recorded, and no damage has been reported.

Two more attacks within a week

On Tuesday, a substation in Bergheim near Cologne was targeted — police found an explosive device and pyrotechnics at the site. That same day, attackers struck a substation near the Jänschwalde power plant in Brandenburg, using homemade objects resembling New Year's fireworks.

Investigators say more than a dozen similar devices have already been found at the various scenes. Police are still trying to determine whether the three incidents are connected and who might be behind the attacks.
