Hand grenade unearthed during excavation work in Břevnov

Several emergency vehicles — from the police, fire brigade and rescue services — descended on the corner of Radimova and Na Větrníku streets in Prague's Břevnov district on Tuesday evening. The commotion was triggered by a discovery at a construction site: while carrying out excavation work on Na Větrníku street, workers came across a hand grenade.

Police officers, the first to arrive on the scene, called in the fire brigade and rescue services themselves. According to fire service spokesman Miroslav Řezáč, the find turned out to be a small piece of ordnance, so firefighters ultimately did not need to intervene.

The grenade was then handed over to the police pyrotechnic unit, whose officers took it away for safe disposal.
