In the village of Sudice in the Opava region, a car driver hit a young man who was lying directly on the roadway. The incident occurred at around 4 a.m. on Hlavní Street.
According to the police press office, the driver was travelling along the road when he struck the man lying on its surface. The exact circumstances that led to the victim ending up on the road are still being established.
Rescuers reported that the injured man was conscious. He sustained injuries to his head and arm, and after receiving first aid was taken in stable condition to the emergency department of the University Hospital Ostrava, medics said on social media.
The police spokeswoman confirmed that the driver's breathalyser test came back negative, while a blood sample was taken from the injured man for analysis. The circumstances and causes of the accident are being investigated by Opava traffic police officers.
