The Lidice Memorial has unveiled an updated multimedia exhibition dedicated to the life and tragic fate of the residents of the Czech village of the same name, which was destroyed by the Nazis. Analog display technology has been replaced with digital, and the new reception desk has been designed to resemble a charred tree — a nod to the village that was burned to the ground.

The use of steel in the exhibition's design is a reference to the work of Lidice's men in metallurgical plants, while sandstone recalls the material used to build the memorial itself. The museum building was constructed in 1962 to a design by architect František Marek, with the last major renovation carried out in 2006.

What Else You Can See at the Memorial

Besides the main museum, visitors can explore several other exhibition spaces. The "Under the Grandstand" hall hosts the exhibition "Lidice (in) the Past," while the neighboring cinema now features a new 3D model of the pre-war village.

Until the end of October 2026, the In Memoriam exhibition hall is showing "Creativity for Lidice 2026," featuring works by students from secondary vocational schools — admission is free. The Lidice Gallery presents the 54th International Children's Art Exhibition Lidice, themed "The Book" this year, while the ground floor now hosts an updated NHK Collection for Lidice display, featuring 65 new works donated to the Lidice art collection. In the neighboring house No. 116, visitors can learn about the construction of the new Lidice after the war.

Accessibility for Deaf Visitors

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the multimedia exhibition "And the Innocent Were Guilty…" Since March 2026, it has become more accessible: deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors can now fully experience the story. The exhibition has been translated into Czech sign language and supplemented with subtitles and QR codes offering additional content. It is now available in six language versions, including Czech sign language.
