Lidl store in Kladno destroyed by fire, damage estimated at 120 million crowns

A Lidl store in the Czech town of Kladno caught fire in the early hours of Thursday. The blaze was reported around five minutes past midnight, according to fire brigade spokesman Tomáš Bakalář.

He said firefighters declared the third, highest level of alert, as the fire had engulfed the entire building. According to preliminary estimates, the damage amounts to 120 million crowns.

Evacuation and rescue operations

Police have cordoned off the surrounding area and are guarding it. A large number of fire crews are working at the scene, battling the blaze both from the ground and using ladder trucks and other aerial equipment. Heavy machinery from the rescue service has also been dispatched to the site to help clear debris.

A total of 53 people were evacuated from a neighboring dormitory. No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire. According to available information, firefighting efforts could continue into the morning.
