Man kills woman in broad daylight in the centre of České Budějovice

A killing took place in broad daylight in the centre of České Budějovice: a man attacked a woman, who died at the scene. The suspect was detained within minutes, and there is no longer any danger to the public, police in the South Bohemian Region reported.

According to police, forensic investigators are already looking into the serious violent crime. Paramedics who arrived on the scene tried to resuscitate the victim, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

“We won’t be releasing further details for now,” said South Bohemian police spokesman Jiří Matzner.

Attack took place near Jirásek Bridge

Photos from the scene suggest the incident occurred in the city centre, near the Jirásek weir. According to Vojtěch Míra, spokesman for the South Bohemian Region’s Emergency Medical Service, the attack happened outdoors, not inside a building.

“We sent a rescue team and a medical crew from České Budějovice to the scene. Together with police officers who were already there, we tried to resuscitate the woman, but without success. In agreement with the police, we cannot share any further details,” Míra said.
