Masked teens filmed riding on coupling between moving train cars near Prague

In a district near Prague, two young men in masks jumped onto a moving train and rode on the coupling between the carriages — a dangerous stunt that was spotted and photographed by a woman waiting on the platform. The incident took place on Tuesday at around 5:10 PM, and she later shared the photo on social media, urging parents to talk to their children, warning that such behaviour puts both themselves and others at risk.

A deadly risk on the tracks

According to Czech Railways spokeswoman Nikola Moravcová, trains on this particular stretch of track can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h, while on other sections speeds can climb as high as 160 km/h. "This is a genuine risk to life. There's a danger of falling under the train, colliding with an obstacle along the tracks, or being electrocuted by the overhead wires on electrified lines," she warned, adding that the best course of action is to report such incidents to the police.

Central Bohemian police are already aware of the case and are investigating further details. If identified, the young men could face between one and eight years in prison.

"Pseudo-heroics" with potentially fatal consequences

Filip Drápal, spokesperson for ROPID, the organisation overseeing Prague's integrated transport system, called the teenagers' behaviour extremely irresponsible. "This kind of pseudo-daring is utterly reckless and could easily end in serious injury or death. And the consequences wouldn't just affect the young people themselves or their families and friends — they could impact thousands of passengers who use this line every day," he stressed.

This type of behaviour is known as train surfing — an extremely dangerous and illegal practice in which people ride on the outside of a moving train, whether on the roof, the coupling, footboards, or between carriages. The extreme stunt is typically carried out for the adrenaline rush and to capture footage for social media.

"There are plenty of adrenaline sports out there where people can safely burn off excess energy. Fortunately, we record very few cases like this," the ROPID spokesperson added.
