Miss Austria 2024 Lucia Sisicová dies at 22 after lifelong heart condition

Lucia Sisicová, who was crowned Miss Austria in 2024, has died at the age of 22. The organisation Miss Austria announced her death on its Facebook page, offering condolences to her family and loved ones.

"It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of our Miss Austria 2024, Lucia Sisicová. Lucia will be remembered as an extraordinary young woman," the pageant's organisers said in a statement.

According to an Austrian tabloid, the beauty queen had struggled with heart problems since birth — reportedly a congenital heart valve defect. Over her short life, Sisicová underwent seven heart surgeries, the last of which took place last winter.

"My childhood was different, but it made me stronger," Sisicová once said of herself.

She won the Miss Austria title in 2024, and since no new competition has been held since her victory, Sisicová remained the country's reigning beauty queen right up until her death.
