Pavel Kicks Off Regional Tour with Visit to Triangle Industrial Zone near Žatec

Czech President Petr Pavel launched a series of regional visits by touring the Triangle industrial zone near Žatec, built on the site of a former military airfield. The zone is home to 16 companies and employs more than five thousand people, including agency workers. The president spent over an hour and a half there.

Besides visiting the zone's administration, Pavel inspected construction trailers that have been converted into dormitories, where some of the companies' employees live and which even have their own shop. The president also stopped by a children's group set up right on the industrial site by the Bitoževes community.

A Fresh Look at the Regions

According to Pavel, this trip around the regions will differ from his previous visits. "We'll be looking at the regions from a slightly different angle than usual. Normally we talk about problems, but this time we'll focus on what's working well in each region, and on the people who are building, creating, saving or improving the lives of local residents," the president said.

He added that the Ústí and Karlovy Vary regions are regions of opportunity — it's here, in this industrial zone, that a considerable concentration of capable people, promising companies and good ideas can be found, ones capable of turning these regions into truly attractive places to live.

A Packed Itinerary

On Wednesday, the president also met with representatives of the Radka civic association and the Krušnohoří tourist agency, and learned about the "Wagons in the Mountains" project at Kovářská station in the Ore Mountains.

On Thursday, Pavel and his wife will travel to the Thun 1794 porcelain factory in Nová Role in the Karlovy Vary Region. The president will also speak at a conference of the Association of Local Governments of the Czech Republic in Karlovy Vary, visit Bečov nad Teplou to see the local castle and chateau, as well as the Bečov Botanical Garden.
