A pit bull attacked a six-year-old girl outside a shop in Plzeň on Monday evening, according to police spokeswoman Michaela Reindlová. The incident took place at around seven o'clock in the West Bohemian capital.

According to preliminary police findings, the dog had been tied by its leash to a railing in front of the shop but managed to slip out of its collar and attack the child.

Luboš Bouček, spokesman for the regional emergency medical service, said the young girl suffered several minor injuries. Paramedics took the six-year-old to Plzeň University Hospital for further examination and treatment.

Police are now investigating the circumstances of the incident.
