Prague 15 Selects Designers for New Grammar School in Hostivař

The district administration of Prague 15 has selected designers for the construction of a new grammar school building, which will rise on the site of the current guarded car park on U Hostivařského nádraží street. This is stated in documents related to the public design tender.

According to the project, the school building will have four floors. It will house 16 main classrooms, seven specialised classrooms, four foreign-language classrooms and two small multipurpose rooms. Besides teaching spaces, the complex will include a gym — which will also be open to local residents outside school hours — as well as outdoor sports facilities.

Shortage of places in Prague grammar schools

A shortage of places in secondary schools, particularly grammar schools, has long been a problem in Prague. Experts believe the situation is being worsened both by the city's growing population and by the fact that pupils from the Central Bohemian Region commute to Prague schools every day.

City authorities intend to expand the number of school places. In particular, Prague City Hall plans to open a grammar school for 500 pupils in the building of the former Brandýs estate in Suchdol. Another new grammar school is being planned by the Prague 22 district administration in Uhříněves.
