Siniaková and Townsend Win Women's Doubles at US Open

Siniaková and Townsend Win Women

Czech tennis player Kateřina Siniaková and American Taylor Townsend have won the women's doubles title at the US Open in New York. The champions will split a prize purse of one million dollars.

Thirty-year-old Siniaková has long been regarded as one of the world's top doubles players. She began building her Grand Slam trophy collection alongside Barbora Krejčíková, with whom she claimed seven titles, including the 2022 US Open. Interestingly, in that final, the Czech duo's opponents were none other than Townsend and her partner at the time, Kaitlyn Christian... actually McNally.

How the New Partnership Came Together

Siniaková's partnership with the flamboyant American began in May 2024. The pair had originally planned to debut at Roland Garros, but Townsend suffered an injury just before the clay-court tournament began. Siniaková had to quickly find a temporary partner and teamed up with Coco Gauff — with whom she went on to win that tournament as well.

"We fought hard to get here, and I'm incredibly proud of us," an emotional Siniaková said after the victory. During the trophy ceremony on Arthur Ashe Stadium, she thanked Townsend for their partnership and expressed hope that this US Open final would not be the duo's last shared triumph.

The Numbers Speak for Themselves

Their rivals certainly have reason to worry: the well-oiled pairing has entered ten Grand Slam tournaments together, winning four titles and never falling before the quarterfinals. Since the formula is working, there are no plans to change it.

Numerous family members watched Townsend's match from the stands — she dedicated her New York victory to her five-year-old son, whom she calls AJ. The newly crowned champion also noted that she faced another African-American player in the final, Taylor Townsend's opponent. "It's a huge inspiration, and I want to set an example," Townsend told the cheering crowd, before embracing her Czech partner once again.
