Southport Killer Back in Court — This Time for Dousing a Prison Guard with Boiling Water

Axel Rudakubana, 20, who is serving a sentence for murdering three girls in the English town of Southport, has appeared in court again — this time facing charges of attacking prison officers. According to The Telegraph, in May 2025 he threw a mixture of boiling water and sugar over a staff member at HMP Belmarsh in London.

He has been charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm. The court also heard a second case involving an assault on another officer around the same time, along with a charge of possessing a weapon in prison: according to the BBC, sharpened pieces of stone were found in his cell.

The Southport Killings

On 29 July 2024, Rudakubana — then 17 — attacked children with a knife at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport. He killed three girls aged six, seven and nine and injured ten other people. In January of last year, the court sentenced him to a minimum of 52 years in prison.

In the aftermath of the Southport tragedy, a wave of anti-migrant unrest swept through several British cities after the suspect was initially — and wrongly — identified as an asylum seeker who had arrived in Britain by boat. In fact, Rudakubana was born in Wales to a family of Rwandan origin.
