Road workers found an abandoned suitcase near the D8 motorway and reported it to police several days later. Inside were more than 400 rare coins worth roughly 8 million crowns in total.

According to Prague police spokesman Richard Hrdina, the coins are of criminal origin — they had been stolen. The victim was a French collector who came to Prague’s Letňany district in early September for a collectors’ fair.

Police say two unknown men broke into the trunk of his car and stole the suitcase full of coins, then fled in a vehicle with Polish license plates. It is not yet clear how the suitcase ended up abandoned near the D8.
