Summer warmth returns to Czechia: up to +32°C this week, cooling with thunderstorms by the weekend

From Monday, Czech weather will be shaped by a ridge of high pressure centred over Scandinavia and the North Sea, while from Tuesday a low-pressure trough will approach from the Atlantic, drawing in warm air from the south. Daytime temperatures will climb to 25°C over the coming days, and in Moravia the mercury could reach as high as 32°C.

According to meteorologists' forecasts, a fresh cold front will sweep into the country from the west on the night from Friday to Saturday, bringing rain and thunderstorms. Over the weekend, humid oceanic air will keep temperatures cooler than usual, with intermittent showers.

Cold mornings, warm days

Monday will bring variable cloud, with some cloudy patches in the north but no precipitation. Mornings will be cool, ranging from 9 to 5°C, while afternoons warm up to 19–23°C, and up to 26°C in southern Moravia. On Tuesday morning, patchy fog may form in valleys and along rivers, with light rain expected in the west and southwest by evening. Overnight temperatures will drop to 7–11°C, rising during the day to 22–26°C, and up to 29°C in southern Moravia.

Wednesday will be mostly cloudy, with rain and thunderstorms possible in northwestern Czechia; daytime highs will reach 22–26°C, and up to 29°C in southern Moravia. Thursday looks set to be sunny: mornings will start at 12–16°C, warming up to 26–30°C in the afternoon, with the thermometer in southern Moravia potentially climbing to 32°C.

Cooler weather with rain at the weekend

On Friday afternoon, clouds will roll in from the west, bringing rain and thunderstorms to nearly the entire country. Morning temperatures will range from 16 to 20°C, with daytime highs of 26–30°C across most of the country. Western Czechia will cool to around 24°C, while Moravia and Silesia could see record-breaking highs of up to 35°C for this time of year.

Current forecasts suggest the weekend skies will be mostly cloudy, with scattered rain and thunderstorms in the afternoons. Daytime temperatures across Czechia will settle around 24°C, while Moravia and Silesia may still see readings as high as 29°C.
