Train drags cyclist at level crossing in South Bohemia — woman suffers serious pelvic injury

In South Bohemia, a train dragged a cyclist across a railway crossing: the woman apparently failed to notice the warning signal and rode onto the tracks just as a train was passing. The train caught the rear wheel of her bicycle, and she suffered a serious pelvic injury.

Police spokeswoman Štěpánka Schwarzová said all units of the integrated rescue system were dispatched to the scene shortly after 3pm. According to her, the cyclist most likely failed to react to the warning signal and ended up on the crossing just as the train was passing.

Václav Burian, a spokesman for the regional ambulance service, said the injured woman suffered a serious pelvic injury. "The crews immobilised her using a vacuum mattress, applied a pelvic binder and a neck collar. The doctor administered painkillers to the patient," he said.

The woman, who remained conscious, was airlifted to hospital. The train, travelling from Protivín to Březnice, was carrying eight people — none of whom were injured. The driver's breathalyser test came back negative, and police continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
