Trump Promises Americans $5,000 Each if Republicans Win the Midterms

US President Donald Trump has warned that a Republican defeat in November's congressional elections would plunge the country into a genuine "hell." He made the remarks at the Republican National Convention in Dallas, which this year is being held in an unusual format — just ahead of the midterm elections held halfway through a presidential term.

According to Trump, if Republicans lose, Americans will "lose the borders, lose the tax cuts, lose safety." "You're going to go through hell, like you did two years ago," he said, referring to the final stretch of Democrat Joe Biden's presidency before Trump took office.

A $5,000 Promise With No Explanation of Where the Money Would Come From

If Republicans win, however, Trump promised every American a kind of "dividend" worth five thousand dollars (roughly 104,000 crowns). He did not specify how such a nationwide payout would be funded.

Observers say Trump appears to be trying to rally his party and its voters at a time when polls increasingly point to a Democratic victory. The president's approval rating has fallen to the lowest point of his political career, dragged down by public frustration over the high cost of living and the war against Iran. On Wednesday, Brent crude prices topped $100 a barrel for the first time since July 24.

Trump Calls His Term the Most Successful Ever

Despite this, Trump described his second term as "the most successful in history — both financially and in every other way." He claimed that food prices and "almost everything else" are falling rapidly, and that oil prices will drop too "as soon as we win the war with Iran."

Unlike traditional party conventions, which are typically held to formally nominate candidates and adopt party platforms, the Dallas gathering has no official agenda. Vice President J.D. Vance is set to be the headline speaker on the event's second day, while Trump himself will close out the convention.

Many Republicans — including those facing tough races against Democratic challengers — skipped the Dallas convention altogether. Those who did show up are hoping to win over Trump's base. "I want you to imagine that I'm the one on the ballot," the president told the assembled candidates.

In November, American voters will decide the makeup of the entire House of Representatives and part of the Senate.
