Volunteer firefighter on quad bike hits father and son in Czechia

In the Klatovy region, a volunteer firefighter driving a quad bike hit a 37-year-old man and his 8-year-old son. The accident happened around midday between the villages of Hradek and Kašovice, as firefighters from Sušice were responding to a call about an injured man in a nearby cottage settlement, said police spokesman Michal Šén.

A passenger car headed to the cottage area, followed by a quad bike towing a trailer and driven by a 47-year-old volunteer firefighter. According to Šén, the quad bike driver probably failed to keep a safe distance from the car, which stopped along the way. He then swerved the steering wheel to the left and drove off the roadway, where the 37-year-old man and his eight-year-old son happened to be standing at that moment.

The quad bike collided with them, injuring both father and son. “We did not provide treatment on site,” said Karolína Korčiková, spokeswoman for the regional emergency medical service. According to Šén, the firefighters themselves drove the injured to hospital.

Police tested all those involved in the accident for alcohol, and the results came back negative. The circumstances of the accident are still being investigated.
