72-year-old cyclist killed by van in Klatovy region

A fatal road accident occurred in the village of Malý Bor on a road near Horažďovice (Klatovy district). A 72-year-old cyclist died on the spot after colliding with a van driven by a 20-year-old woman.

According to police spokesman Ondřej Hodan, the man failed to yield the right of way at an intersection to the van approaching from his right, driven by the young woman. The collision left the cyclist with fatal injuries.

Two ambulance crews from Horažďovice and Sušice, along with a medical rescue helicopter, responded to the scene. Martin Štěpán, spokesman for the regional emergency medical service, said that despite the medics' best efforts, the cyclist could not be revived — a doctor pronounced him dead after resuscitation attempts failed.

Police tested the van's driver for alcohol and drugs, and both tests came back negative. The exact cause of the cyclist's death will be determined by a forensic examination ordered as part of the investigation.
