American tennis player Amanda Anisimova has asked her Instagram followers to stop discussing her appearance after new training photos sparked a wave of comments about a sudden change in her figure. Some social media users suggested the athlete might be using the weight-loss drug Ozempic.
The finalist of last year's Wimbledon and US Open finally snapped, writing bluntly: "To all the medical experts and professional body commentators out there: I'm not on Ozempic. Please just leave me alone."
This isn't the first time Anisimova's looks have come under fire. Just two months ago, she had to fend off the opposite accusation, when comments under one of her photos claimed her figure didn't match that of a top-level professional athlete. The American responded with a poolside photo captioned ironically: "This is what your comments catch me doing."
In recent years, Anisimova has firmly established herself among the world's elite women tennis players. Last season was the best of her career: she reached the finals at Wimbledon and the US Open, and won two WTA 1000 titles, in Doha and Beijing. Earlier this year, she climbed to No. 3 in the WTA rankings.
This season has been noticeably quieter. Anisimova reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and, in February, the semifinals in Dubai. But her health let her down in the spring, and she was knocked out in the third round at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
She made it back into the top eight in August in Cincinnati, where she was stopped by fellow American Jessica Pegula. This week, Anisimova withdrew from the Singapore tournament due to a left wrist injury. She has yet to claim her first title of the season and currently sits 11th in the rankings, with a record of 22 wins and 12 losses.
