Cyclist slaps driver and smashes windshield in Prague — police looking for the man

The incident took place on 29 August on Myslíkova Street in central Prague. According to Prague police, what began as a routine traffic dispute around 3 p.m. ended in two separate offences — property damage and disorderly conduct.

A driver was travelling along the main road from the city centre when a cyclist suddenly pulled out from a side street without giving way. A few metres further on, at the intersection, the two men started arguing about who had had the right of way.

Argument turns into a fight

The row quickly escalated beyond shouting. “I’m on the main road, learn the traffic rules, idiot,” the cyclist yelled at the driver. Yet the footage released by police clearly shows the opposite: it was the car that had priority, while the cyclist was obliged to yield — as confirmed by both the road signs and the markings on the asphalt.

Once the argument reached its peak, the cyclist got off his bike and decided to settle things face to face. He walked up to the car, whose window was down, and slapped the driver across the face. That apparently wasn’t enough — as he headed back to his bicycle, he punched the windshield with full force and shattered it.

The damage to the car owner came to more than 15,000 crowns. The man then got back on his bike, flipped the driver the middle finger, and rode off in an unknown direction.

Police appeal for help

“Officers from the Bartolomějská station gathered all available camera footage and immediately launched a search for the unknown man. Since he has not yet been identified, we are asking the public for help,” said Prague police spokesman Richard Hrdina.

Anyone who recognises the man in the footage or has information that could help track him down is asked to call the police hotline at 158. According to the police spokesman, the unidentified cyclist faces up to two years in prison for property damage and disorderly conduct if caught and convicted.
