Czech state museums and galleries go free on the first Sunday of every month

Starting this year, the Czech Ministry of Culture has made admission to the permanent exhibitions of state museums and galleries free on the first Sunday of every month — regardless of the visitor's age. With this step, the ministry is continuing a pilot project launched in spring and fulfilling one of the commitments in the government's policy statement on access to culture.

According to the ministry, this year's free Sundays fall on September 6, October 4, November 1 and December 6, 2026. The first date has already passed, while the remaining three are still ahead. The ministry notes that the same arrangement will continue in the coming years as well.

The aim of the initiative is to make culture accessible to as wide a range of people as possible and to allow them to visit museums and galleries on a regular basis. According to the ministry, the free Sundays are a chance to revisit favourite places, get to know permanent collections, or step into a museum for the very first time.
