Dominika Kubíčková, a contestant on the Slovak reality show "Extreme Makeover," dropped from 144 to 79 kilograms during her time on the program — shedding a total of 65 kilograms — and, for the first time in years, managed to have an honest conversation with her mother, who lives in Switzerland.
The 20-year-old began her transformation journey after a training camp in Turkey, returning home full of motivation. But instead of support, she found mockery from her grandfather and a mountain of family troubles waiting for her: her mother, who had moved to Switzerland, had essentially abandoned the family, while her grandmother, whom Dominika cared for, was confined to a wheelchair.
After three months of training, Dominika hit her target weight of 115.75 kilograms. Her coach, Maroš Molnár, then set a new six-month goal of 98 kilograms. But real life got in the way: she lost her job, faced debt enforcement proceedings tied to her mother's unpaid bills, and caring for her grandmother left little time for the gym.
By the six-month mark, her weight stood at 102.6 kilograms — 4.5 kilograms over target. "I don't feel like doing anything," she admitted at the time. Her grandfather was blunt about the situation, saying his granddaughter was giving up exactly where she needed to push harder.
Pulling herself together, Dominika quit her job at the restaurant to focus entirely on training, and by the nine-month mark she had reached 84 kilograms — the ideal weight for an aesthetic abdominal correction, according to the show's specialists.
The coach's wife, Zuzana, convinced Dominika to try to rebuild her relationship with her mother. The meeting, arranged through social media with Maroš Molnár's help, left Dominika wary: "I don't want to fall for the same trap again — I want to see actions from her, not just words." Her mother admitted she regretted everything and said she had once wanted to bring her daughter to live with her in Switzerland, but her grandfather had blocked it, unwilling to be left completely alone. Dominika described her overall impression of the meeting as mixed, but noted that at least she and her mother now have some kind of connection.
At the final weigh-in in the TV studio, the scale showed 79 kilograms — a total loss of 65 kilograms. "It was all down to her stubbornness, but we made it through. Now I'll walk with my head held high — I have such a beautiful granddaughter," said Dominika's grandfather, visibly moved.
Her grandmother, aunt, and close friends all rallied behind her. Dominika herself noted that the program transformed not only her body but also her character: "I learned to tell the truth, and I gained self-confidence. The most important thing is humility, as Maroš Molnár always says."
