Czech player Karel Sedláček has made history, becoming the first Czech ever to win a professional PDC darts tour event. In the final of Players Championship 30, the 47-year-old from Červený Kostelec edged out Britain's Scott Williams 8-7 in a dramatic decider, sealing the win on his eighth attempt at a match dart.

"I've been waiting for this for over ten years, and now the dream has come true. It's unbelievable," Sedláček said after the trophy presentation.

Drama in the deciding set

Williams raced into an early 4-2 lead in the final. Sedláček levelled things up at 5-5, then pulled ahead 7-5. But he then missed three consecutive match darts in a row, allowing his opponent to force a deciding leg. It was there that the Czech hit double eight with the very last dart of the match to clinch victory.

"I missed five darts in a row for the win, then two more after that. I kept thinking about what else I could try. I just took it step by step and told myself I could pull it off," Sedláček said, describing the nerve-wracking finish.
