In Karlovy Vary, an 18-year-old driver fatally struck a woman on a pedestrian crossing. The accident happened just after 4:00 PM, when the young man, driving an Audi from the direction of Lidická Street, hit a 20-year-old pedestrian crossing the road with the front of his car.
According to police spokesman Jan Bílek, the driver apparently failed to pay proper attention to the road. He was tested for alcohol at the scene, and the result came back negative.
The injured woman was airlifted to hospital by helicopter. "Her injuries were so severe that, despite the doctors' best efforts, she later died in hospital," Bílek said.
Forensic investigators are now working to establish the exact causes and circumstances of the crash. The case is being investigated on suspicion of negligent causing of death. Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the accident or were driving through the area at the time — dashcam footage in particular could prove valuable.
Anyone with information relevant to the investigation can contact any local police station or call the free hotline 158.
