A woman from the Klatovy region spent almost a year in Egypt together with her underage daughter, causing the girl to miss 900 hours of school. Police have concluded their investigation and forwarded the case file to the prosecutor, recommending that the woman be charged.
Police spokesman Michal Šoun confirmed that the trip lasted nine months. According to investigators, the mother refused to cooperate with the school and ignored repeated attempts by the Social and Legal Protection of Children Authority (OSPOD) to contact her.
"She deliberately jeopardised her daughter's moral development by allowing her to lead an idle lifestyle for almost a year, without ensuring she received an education," police said in a statement.
The woman herself claims she simply took her daughter to Egypt for a regular holiday. She says health problems arose shortly before they were due to fly home, preventing them from returning on schedule. A local acquaintance, she says, helped them find accommodation in the country in the meantime.
