Night of Science 2026 in Prague: Institute in Krč to Open Its Doors to Everyone

On Friday, 25 September 2026, Prague's Krč district will host "Night of Science" — from 17:00 to 21:30, the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences will open its doors to all visitors, including areas normally off-limits to the public.
Guests can look forward to lab tours, demonstrations of cutting-edge microscopy technology, hands-on experiments, interactive stations, meet-and-greets with scientists, lectures, and a special programme for the youngest visitors. Organisers promise to reveal a world invisible to the naked eye and show how molecular biology labs actually work behind the scenes.
Two Science Talks on the Evening's Agenda
At 18:30, Jan Pačes from the Laboratory of Genomics and Bioinformatics will give a talk titled "Artificial and Synthetic Life: From Genetic Editing to Creating New Organisms." He'll discuss how far scientists can go in modifying living organisms, whether life can not only be edited but also created from scratch, and the ethical questions this raises.
At 20:30, a second lecture will follow — Libor Macůrek from the Laboratory of Cancer Cell Biology will speak on "Genes Are Not a Sentence: How to Detect Hereditary Breast Cancer Risk." The talk will cover what DNA can reveal about hereditary predisposition to breast cancer, how dangerous genetic changes are identified, and how this knowledge is applied in treatment.
