Polish bus crashes in Hungary, killing 12 people

A Polish bus carrying 59 people has crashed in eastern Hungary, between the town of Mezőkeresztes and the village of Mezőnagymihály. According to preliminary reports, 12 passengers were killed, one person is in critical condition, nine suffered serious injuries and 37 sustained minor injuries.

Hungary's Interior Minister Gábor Pósfai said on Facebook that firefighters and rescue teams worked at the scene. According to him, the bus driver has been detained.

Passengers pulled out through the windows

Reports indicate the driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the crash. Rescuers had to pull victims out through the bus windows, as some people were trapped underneath the vehicle. To free them, firefighters used a crane to lift the bus.
