Poll: Support for ANO Keeps Falling as STAN Strengthens Its Position

Support for the ruling ANO movement in Czechia continues to slide. According to a fresh poll by Kantar, conducted for Czech Television (ČT), only 30.5% of voters would now back the party. Meanwhile, the STAN movement is clearly gaining ground with 17%, while ODS held steady at 15.5%.

Who's Losing Ground and Who's Gaining

In Kantar's February poll, ANO stood at 34.5% — exactly the share it won in last year's parliamentary elections. Since then, the movement's ratings have been sliding poll after poll, dropping another percentage point compared to June's figures. According to ČT, ANO voters are drifting mainly toward STAN, with some also moving to SPD and ODS. The reason cited is growing dissatisfaction with the government's handling of its election promises and its communication with the public.

STAN, meanwhile, gained 1.5 percentage points to reach 17%. The Pirate Party fared worse, losing a percentage point to fall to 8.5%. SPD remained unchanged at 6.5%, while the Motorists party held at 5%.

Under the current numbers, several parties would fail to clear the threshold for the lower house of parliament: the Christian Democrats (KDU-ČSL) with 3.5%, South Bohemian Governor Martin Kuba's Our Czechia movement with 2.5%, and TOP 09 with 2%. It's worth recalling that the Christian Democrats and TOP 09 ran together with the Civic Democrats as part of the Spolu coalition in the last election, while Our Czechia was founded by Kuba after he left ODS.

Czechs Unhappy With the Political Situation

Kantar also asked respondents to assess the current political climate in the country. Only 3% described it as very good, while a quarter called it fairly good. At the same time, 40% of Czechs consider the situation fairly bad, and another 28% call it very bad. In other words, more than two-thirds of citizens view the country's political state negatively.

The survey was conducted between August 3 and 21 among roughly a thousand respondents. The model's margin of error ranges from plus or minus one to plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
