The Prague 8 municipal district is purchasing more than 16,000 square metres of land beneath the football pitch on Bedřichovská Street, where the Meteor club has played for decades. The decision to buy the plot from a company belonging to the Kaufland group was approved on Wednesday by the district assembly, said Martin Šalek, spokesperson for the Libeň town hall.
According to district officials, the deal is meant to ensure the pitch continues to serve footballers and local residents, keeping the site safe from development or any other use. By acquiring the property, Prague 8 secures the sports ground for itself and guarantees its preservation in the future.
