Woman Killed Behind the Wheel of a BMW in Heavy Downpour on D5 Highway

A fatal accident occurred at the 48th kilometer of the D5 highway heading toward Prague. According to police spokeswoman Veronika Hokrová, at around 2:30 a.m. the driver of a BMW veered off the road to the right for reasons not yet established, crashed through the crash barrier and ended up in a ditch.

Heavy rain was falling in the area at the time of the crash. According to police, the woman behind the wheel suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. Her passenger survived — paramedics treated her and she was airlifted to hospital by helicopter.

Highway Closed for Several Hours

Police shut down the section of road where the crash occurred for several hours to carry out investigative work. Hokrová clarified that both women were foreign nationals, so their families will be notified through diplomatic channels.

Forensic investigators from Rokycany are now working to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the crash.
